How come you get tiny holes in your clothes?
Have you ever noticed that after a while tiny little holes start appearing in your T-shirts? You take it out of your closet, put it on and notice a speckle of tiny dots that weren’t there before. It could be a hungry moth or a sharp belt buckle, but it’s most likely caused by something else.
What causes these little holes then? The Dutch women’s magazine Libelle did some research, in cooperation with the Dutch Textile Museum. They found out that it’s not moths or sharp objects, but rather the quality of the thread that’s the culprit. A T-shirt is usually made of single jersey; meaning that the fabric consists of only one long thread. If this thread breaks, you immediately notice tiny little holes in the fabric.
