Nine habits of people who always have a tidy home

Get rid of all the stuff you don’t need. If it’s in a junk drawer, it most likely can be put in the bin. This is the perfect moment to get rid of empty batteries, broken appliances and duplicates. You don’t need 5 pairs of scissors or 10 rolls of scotch tape. Throw out all of the redundant stuff you own and you’ll notice right away your home will be much tidier.

We’ve all got a huge collection of paperwork in our homes. Some of it we need to keep, but a lot of it can be, or already has been, digitalised. Plan in an afternoon to sort out all the paperwork. Put important papers in binders and folders and throw out everything you don’t need. Old magazines can be recycled too, you’ll never read them again.

Keep up

The best tip we can give you is to keep up with your housework. Even small things can make a difference. After you’ve had dinner, wipe down the table with a damp cloth. This prevents filth and dust to accumulate. Clean surfaces will make your home look tidier and cleaner.

A shelf full of pictures, a window sill littered with knick-knacks: it looks beautiful in interior design magazines, but in our homes, it ends up looking messy. Try to keep trinkets to a minimum to avoid making it look cluttered.

Coats and shoes

Are you the type of person who kicks off their shoes wherever and drapes their coat over a nearby chair? Stop this now! Hang up your coat and put away your shoes. It will make your home look much tidier and cleaner.

Dirty dishes

Sure, doing the dishes isn’t fun at all. Still, instead of putting your dirty dishes in the sink, put them in the dishwasher. Or, if you don’t have a dishwasher, wash them immediately. This ensures a build up of dirty dishes and the task won’t be as daunting. Dry your dishes straight away and put them in the cupboard. This will look better than having dishes on a dish rack.

Put your belongings back

Always put your belongings back in their proper place. Tidy people do not have a drawer full of clutter, as all their belongings have a place to go.

A clean floor

The number one rule for a home that looks and feels clean is having a clean floor. You don’t have to vacuum every single day, but do try sweeping your floor with a dry mop every day. It’ll make a huge difference!
